Shelter site at Medkær
About 800 meters from Thorsager round church, in the middle of pure nature, our association Thorsager Friluftsliv runs a shelter site with two shelters, a fire pit and basic facilities. The site is open to everyone who comes by foot or bike.
You can spend the night, cook over an open fire, or simply enjoy a day out with friends and family. Our most important rule is that you always leave the site as you would like to receive it.
Practical information
- Overnight stay: DKK 40 per family per night. Payment via MobilePay to Birger Holmgaard Johansen at 25 60 17 80.
- Firewood can be purchased for DKK 50 (find it in the shed). Always extinguish the fire – use water from the brook.
- Toilet: Outhouse behind the shelters (no running water). Customer toilet is available at Brugsen Thorsager (local grocery store).
- Please bring your own drinking and washing water. We do not recommend drinking water from the brook.
- Shopping: Brugsen Thorsager is open every day 7–20.
- If you arrive by car, park in the town – see the map below where P marks the nearest parking.
Find the site
There is clear signage from Kjærvej out to Medkær. The site is about 800 meters from the round church – follow the signs on foot or bicycle.
If you arrive by light rail to Thorsager, it is about 2 km to the shelter site. Brugsen is on the route if you need supplies or wish to use the customer toilet.
Rules
- Quiet is required on the site from 11 pm to 7 am.
- Fires may only be lit in the fire pit.
- All waste must be taken home or to public bins – do not burn it on the fire.
- The fire must be extinguished before you leave the site.
- The outhouse behind the shelters must be used for all toilet needs.
- Dogs must always be kept on a leash.
- Climbing on the shelter roofs is not allowed.
- You may use stools and chairs, but please place them under cover to keep dry after use.
- Make room in the shelters so as many as possible can stay overnight.
- Single walkers and cyclists must always be able to find space for the night, even if reserved by a group.
- If you are a larger group, please contact the chairperson to make a reservation.
About Thorsager Friluftsliv
Thorsager Friluftsliv is the official name of the association.
In English, this could be translated as "Thorsager Outdoor Life".
Thorsager Friluftsliv is a local association working to give everyone in Thorsager and the surrounding area better opportunities to enjoy outdoor life. Our main activity is the operation and maintenance of the Medkær shelter site, which is cared for by the association's members together.
By becoming a member, you join an engaged and active group of citizens who all share an interest in nature and outdoor activities. In addition to gathering around the shelter site, we also aim to develop and create other outdoor activities for the benefit of both members and the whole town.
The board consists of Anette Nielsen, Christina Udby Hansen and Birger Holmgaard.
